Summary/Abstract: In his novel „Désert“, Le Clézio presents two parallel stories that resemble each other by a common theme, that of the quest. On the one hand, it is the quest for a better life, the Promised Land, made in the historical narrative, collective blue warriors, at the time of French colonization and on the other side, the one in the contemporary story, the solitary quest of the heroine Lalla in France. Moreover, it should be mentioned that the two stories are not distinct but complement each other since the defeat of the warriors by the Christian soldiers in the first part, leads to the colonization and migration of Lalla, portrayed in the second. We propose to analyze the reasons for this quest, to present the image of the Promised Land, the magic of the West and the hard tests of the heroes in their course which proves to be a failure.
