Summary/Abstract: The most famous American admiral, Alfred Thayer Mahan, was a classic geopolitician who believed in the importance of maritime power. Mahan’s thesis is based on the relationship between the political control of the sea and the impact of a strong fleet on the foreign policy of the state. Thus, Mahan has tried to predict the role that maritime power will play in US foreign policy. Mahan’s work can be credited by presenting the essential elements of the sea power and demonstrating how important it is, for a great power, to have a strong Navy.
