Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the small prose of writer-realist F.M. Dostoyevsky, the analysis of the story An Unpleasant Predicament in particular. The receptive method makes it possible to reveal the distinctive features of Dostoevsky’s poetics, his methods of creating an artistic image. The author of the article reveals the principles of depicting characters of An Unpleasant Predicament at the level of the plot, event, deed, speech game and reception of duality. Dostoevsky, in the format of the literary text, concretizes the typical features of historical time. The phenomenology of a person is viewed from the standpoint of social dynamics, individual-personality activity and situational adaptation. An analysis of artistic incident allows us to identify the hidden qualities of a person, decode the person and reveal a number of ontological characteristics of the image. It is concluded that a socio-cultural paradigm influences the determination of literary character, which, in turn, changes the spectrum of the receptions of human nature.
