FINANCIAL LITERACY: A RESEARCH ON HOUSEHOLD

Summary/Abstract: Aim: The aim of the study is to determine the financial literacy level of the household and to examine the effect of demographic characteristics on financial literacy level. It is also aimed to analyze the financial behavior of households and measure the effect of financial literacy on borrowing and saving behavior of individuals. Method: A questionnaire form was used to collect the data of the study. data. The population of the study is the financial consumer group of the Sakarya province household. The sample of the study consists of 453 people selected by simple random sampling method. The analysis of research data were used descriptive statistical methods, chi-square analysis and clustering analysis Findings: As the result of the analysis it is found out that more than the half of the household is low-level financial literacy and there is a significant correlation between financial literacy level and saving behavior and demographic characteristics. Furthermore, any relation between financial literacy level and borrowing behavior isn’t found. Results: As a result, financial literacy is low for the majority of households and financial literacy is influential on saving behavior
