Summary/Abstract: Transmission of folk traditions and beliefs related to lightning strikes, the appearance of lightning, lightning in the sky, etc., as far as we know, has not been noted in our literature in terms of foundation on the real, observed data. In order to de¬termine how much the traditions related to the mentioned phenomena are based on the reasonable grounds, the analysis of the occurrence of thunder and lightning was carried out for the period 1975–2009 for the Meteorological Observatory in Belgrade. The results should be taken conditionally, because the relatively limited space they refer to, as well as because of the climate changes that reflected differently, particularly in relation to the observed period of time.
