Summary/Abstract: In the sacred space of the Orthodox shrine the Christian masses, sacraments and rituals are performed. It is a place, where the believers go to purify their souls and turn themselves to God. At the same time the shrine also performs some practical functions, aiming to solve the visitors’ mundane problems, among which health problems take an important place. An example of that are three traditional healing practices with a different degree of popularity in Bulgaria, which will be presented in this paper: incubation in the church, a specific ritual for healing female infertility, known as The Golden Apple and ritual unlocking the church’s door „for health”.
