Summary/Abstract: The present article reflects the situation of the academic libraries in the Republic of Moldova, under the circumstances of an endless transition period, when these institutions try to use the available documentary resources- which are continuously decreasing in number- to support the process of training of the future specialists and researchers, Every year, 11 academic libraries with 470 employees attend about 100,000 users, who visit libraries more than 2,5 million times and borrow more than 5 million documents. The survey on the libraries' automation level established a dispersed, non - homogenous and difficult modernization of the institutions and a poor condition of the electronic services. only the foundation of the co-operative academic information retrieval network, by purchasing software and advanced technical equipment, would solve the problems of each library and allow the integration of the academic libraries in SIBIMOL, as a step for the information system at national and international level.
