Summary/Abstract: : Baudrillard, considering the discourse that we live in a virtual world, claims that many factors - human beings, politics, religions, masses etc. - are included in a hyperreal process and they have a meaning evaporation. Based on that the present world and era are a virtual age, he has tried to understand today’s world by means of the simulation theory. In this context, he discusses the phenomena of mass-media-terrorismhostages together and expresses that the meaning of these phenomena has been evaporated. According to him; the media, which is the reason why the masses have gained a destructive and meaningless qualification, both emptied people and has become the empowering propaganda tool for terrorism. As a result of the modernity, terrorism is a symbolic challenge against the domination brought by globalization. Media is the medium of the masses, whose meaning has been evaporated, and terrorism, which derives from modernity and hyper-modernity and is a response to the globalization. The elements which terrorism can establish relationship with are masses and hostages. Baudrillard, in a helix of populace, media, captive, puts forth the sources of existence of terrorism in simulative order. Baudrillard, whose aim is not to make room for terrorism instead ensure the order make critique of itself, mentions critically to populace and media`s making volunteer intermediary to the terrorism. Simulative order not only broke off elements like politics, populace, reality, sexuality, economy, aesthetics from reality but also convert violence to terrorism by putting it into a process of ecstasy. Person lives in a hyperreality where he was alienated to himself and was wiped out by the means of virtual reality, and in a system where the communication technologies increased. In this study, the relations between mass-media-terrorismhostages in the simulation universe and layout which Baudrillard sees as the process we live in will be referred to.
