Summary/Abstract: The article presents considerations associated with the broadly conceived scholarly communication, with reference to the problems associated with the competence of the participants of communicative acts in the area of science communication, scientific communication, scholarly communication. The competences were outlined by means of an analysis of communication barriers, with reference to the differences resulting from the premises of IQ (intellectual intelligence) and EQ (emotional intelligence), situating scholarly communication in the model of synergic communication. There is a presentation of the concepts of competences described in subject literature by means of anchoring the concepts of information literacy, transliteracy and metaliteracy in reference to the processes which occur in scholarly communication.
