Summary/Abstract: The subject matter of the article is the relationship between ancient literature and Brandstaetter’s writings. The Polish writer interprets motifs from Greek mythology and ancient dramas in the light of Christian anthropology. The author of the article demonstrates examples of such an interpretation in Brandstaetter’s “Odys płaczący” (“Odysseus Weeping”), in which the effect of anagnorisis is broadened by the Christian understanding of kenosis. Odysseus’ return home becomes a metaphor of the paschal passage from sin to grace.
