Summary/Abstract: Communication in the context of migration where different cultures and languages are integrated constitutes a field of great interest for all the agents involved in guaranteeing the access to medical care. Different nationalities gathered in the Spanish society make the healthcare interpreter an essential agent to ensure communication. The migratory phenomenon has required a change in healthcare assistance. New emerged migrant societies cannot be discriminated by linguistic factors. This paper presents the main conclusions drawn from a study carried out in 2016 which aims to confirm that the practice of multimodality in the classroom consolidates the skills to work as an interpreter nowadays. It is also intended as a means of showing the benefits of using professional interpreters to provide foreign patients with specialized information. The linguistic component and the transfer of written discursive competences to the oral discourse are also covered. The document used to carry out the study is the informed consent. A qualitative survey is complemented and supported by a quantitative study on the informed consent comprehensibility level by native and foreign patients, the interpreter's activity and the multimodality management in the medical consultation. The research approach is based on monitoring the results of the professional healthcare interpreting exercise from the experience of a sample of patients to improve the necessary skills required by this field and to apply new methodologies to the training. The main axis focuses on liaison interpreting technique in the social healthcare interpreting field.
