Summary/Abstract: By examining a variety of Algirdas Julius Greimas’s texts, the paper reconstructs his projects for the future of Lithuanian culture and his efforts to implement them. The exposition reveals the foundations of these projects: the existential structure of time (past – present – future) and, within this structure, the futurist orientation of Greimas. It explores Greimas’s cultural projects on several levels, such as: the resistance, the political state, the organization of academic scholarly practices, the “semiotization” of Lithuania, the creation of interpersonal cultural networks and spaces for free debates, and the publication of a cultural journal. This exploration aims to identify the limits of Greimas’s demiurgic project-making and the individual horizon of these efforts, constituted by the ethics of loyalty to oneself and the “beau geste”.
