Summary/Abstract: Globalisation requires global regulation of banking activity, especially of large banks that operatein many countries, whose careless policy can quickly lead to an outbreak of a global financialcrisis. The crisis of 2007–2009 has revealed the lack of relevant national and global banking regulationsand the weakness of banking supervision. The purpose of the paper is to analyse changes inglobal banking regulations in the post-crisis era. Particular attention has been paid to the implementationof the Basel III agreement to domestic banking systems and to the regulations introducedin the euro area in connection with the banking union. This article is based on a studyof literature and legislation related to banking regulations and supervision. The analysis makes itpossible to conclude that with the changes already made, both the global and national bankingsystems have become safer.
