WHY IS THAT WE NEED A NEW, CONTEMPORARY, ORTOGRAPHY TEXTBOOK OF BOSNIAN LANGUAGE

Summary/Abstract: The first Bosnian language orthography book, known as orthography textbook by Halilović, was met with both delight and numerous criticisms. However, it has to be said that most of the criticism were unfounded. Without the diminishing the value of orthography textbook by Halilović, we still need a now orthography textbook, given the fact of numerous changes happening in language, especially given the great influx of foreign words that have rooted in and became common part of speech and language. Many people are uncertain on how to write and spell those words properly. We believe that the loanwords have to be registered in and their spelling regulated by the orthography. The contemporary orthography textbook is also needed for the fact that the existing one contains numerous “not-learnable” rules which need to be tackled and resolved. We believe that the rules should get simplified but also brought down to reasonable measure and scope. It must be taken in consideration that the orthography textbooks are in use by wider population and not limited to the utilisation by the niche of language explorers only. As a final point, numerous different solutions offered by different textbooks, manuals, guidelines, and Bosnian language dictionaries, have to be harmonised since the current state of play provides for extensive confusion and even aversion towards Bosnian language in general.
