Summary/Abstract: The present paper sets out from three points of view on the possibility of the dialogue, mutual influencing or merging of cultures put forward by three philosophers of culture in the last century which was characterised by the internationalization of styles and critical theories. While Martin Heidegger looked at the issue as spokesman of a metropolitan culture, Romanian Eugen Lovinescu and Constantin Rădulescu Motru speculated on the chance of minor cultures to join contemporary centres of civilization. A discussion of Romanian Titu Maiorescu and French Alfred Binet as links in the chain of thought that led to the rise of polyvalent logics and of modernist aesthetics is meant to test the contesting theories about cultural genealogy and interferences.
