Summary/Abstract: The text is devoted to the analysis of the works by Hermann Nitsch. Its first part, which has a descriptive character, presents the artist’s profile set in the context of the Viennese Actionism and depicts three forms of his art: action painting, choreographic scenes and processions. The second part examines the meaning of Nitsch’s works, based on his declarations. It outlines the theory of a total work of art, the so called Gesamtkunstwerk as well as three underlying ideas: Freudianism, the idea of mysteries and the issue of corporality. The last part is an attempt to show similarities between Nitsch’s theoro-practice and trends of the Russian philosophy of creativity.
