Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to demonstrate, basing on the example of Wilcza Street running through the south-eastern area of Lublin, that certain elements of the cultural landscape (primarily roads) could be preserved after the inclusion of suburban regions into the dynamically developing cities in the 19th and 20th centuries. Examination of the cartographic source material and the observation of the present-day landform have led to a hypothesis that the modern Wilcza Street could be a fragment of an old local road, which had lost its original significance as a result of changes made to the street network, yet endured as a local road. For reasons unknown, it was integrated into and ran through the system of streets newly laid out in Lublin, allowing it to survive to this day. Despite the disappearance of most elements formerly associated with this road (crossings, the majority of other roads), the street survived the numerous changes in its surroundings and remains an example of the incredible durability of certain aspects of the cultural landscape.
