Summary/Abstract: The article deals with peace and propagandistic missions of king Jiří of Poděbrady in years 1461–1467. The topic is discussed in the context of his peace plan for the league of Christian European states, so-called Parliament, and anti-Turkish alliance in times of their origins, negotiations and finally breakdown in the year 1464. Firstly, the four most significant peace missions are analysed including the legation of Antonio Marini at Curia Romana in years 1461–1462 in times of origins of his idea of the peace union and in Western Europe in years 1462–1464; then, negotiations of kings Jiří of Poděbrady and Casimir IV in Velký Hlohov about concluding a treaty of fellowship and aid in the year 1462, and the mission of Albrecht Kostka of Postupice and Antonio Marini to France with the purpose to introduce a peace project in the year 1464. Moreover, the paper points out that a peace plan of Jiří and Marini might be successful in Europe such as a peace treaty, so-called pax bohemica, established by power, respectively creating a new order but not in the framework of the Catholic Church as a mythical Christ’s body, where the heretic, i.e. Hussite part of church, could not participate in making and maintaining a Christian peace after the abolition of Compactata by Pope Pius II on 31st March 1462. Despite this, the diplomatic meaning of peace mission of Jiří of Poděbrady was remarkable both for defending the Bohemian state and as a competitive project of the council and the crusade initiated by papacy. It was not unsuccesful only in concluding treaties of fellowship with Poland and France, however, for a certain period of time a certain peace triple alliance of Bohemian and Polish Crowns and France was established, later in the year 1467 the alliance was joined by Milan and also Moldavia wanted to become a member. On the other hand, French king Luis XI ensured the military neutrality of the Bohemian Crown during his military mission to Italy. At that time the opposition of lords called the League of Zelená Hora sent their mission to Venice and Rome (to curia) in September 1466 with the complaint dealing with endangering their allods and feuds. With respect to personal composition of royal missions it may be said that members of all estates as well as Catholic and Utraquist clergy participated. At the same time, two biggest missions to France in the year 1464 and Lev of Rožmitál’s mission to Western Europe in years 1465–1467 were accompanied by authors of outstanding travelogues – squire Jaroslav, Václav Šašek of Bířkov and Gabriel Tetzel. The recently published evidence of diplomatic negotiations in Burgundy, Bretagne and Spain indicates that a mysterious, unofficial and propagandistic Rožmitál’s mission, which followed a peace plan in a reduced form, may be also evaluated such as the important political mission. According to the satirical print of Oldřich Kalenic of Kalenice, a character and lifestyle of Lev of Rožmitál was introduced; the print describes him as an intolerant Catholic who does not respect the heritage of king Jiří of Poděbrady, but also as a supporter of West European court culture considering decorations of his castles in Blatná and Písek. Finally, the article attempts to estimate financial costs – Kostka’s and Marini’s missions approximately 2 340 Gouldens (1 759 threescore Groschen), Rožmitál’s mission approximately 8 060 Gouldens (6 060 threescore Groschen), of which one third was necessary for maintenance of horsemen and total cost could be rather higher.
