Summary/Abstract: As the title of the novel indicates, Haddock the Fear gives insight in both sides of hegemony – those who practice hegemony and those who are subjected to it. Practicing hegemony, as the central motive of this novel, will be studied through prism of postcolonial theory. One of the specificity of the text is barrenness of presented tactics of practicing hegemony, whilst the same tactics in other novels (which are frequently analyzed by postcolonial theory) are more subtle masked by issues of identity or space. This paper deals with questions of tactics of practicing hegemony out of center of power, but also tactics of destabilization of existing and establishment of alternative centers of power. Those tactics will be studied in the frame of four motive wholes: writing of alternative history (which is stressed in this research), Bosnia as metaphor of polygon for practicing hegemony, hegemony on local level and hegemony in individual relations. Assertion of impossibility of the state without hierarchy (or hegemony) is pointed out as conclusion of this paper.
