Summary/Abstract: The novel Hodža strah was firstly published in 1973 in Sarajevo and it was excellently accepted and welcomed by the reading audience. Although the Croatian edition of the novel Hodža strah happened only in 2005, it did not belittle its excellent reception. In the novel there is a tendency to express spiritual and religious motives, which, integrating into the text, open a new author’s perspective toward new topics and complex interpretations of historic events. The author’s poetic expression does not include the religious theme field in a real sense, but a narrative form enriched by motives that are characteristic for the leading poetics. Derviš Sušić is confirmed as a classic and as a member of the literary and cultural circle which opens its paths toward the European world views, and many other authors such as Meša Selimović, Ivo Andrić, Miroslav Krleža, Danilo Kiš belong to this circle.
