Summary/Abstract: This article assesses the impact of ideational factors, such as culture and identity on foreign, security and defence policy of Serbia. This is done through poststructuralist theoretical framework and concept of strategic culture. The main argument presented in the article is that Serbian strategic culture can be conceptualized as a tension between two divergent discourses, national-liberational and civic-democratic. The competition and the stalemate between the two discourses creates a strategic schizophrenia, reactive foreign policy and complete political paralysis of the use of Serbian military forces.
