Summary/Abstract: To say that Polish countryside, which is in a split between the past and modernity, is a kind of cultural desert is not an irrevocable judgement. The authors of the article build their optimism on a change in the attitude of young rural intelligentsia, who regain a sense of regional awareness and self-esteem; do not want to emigrate, but want to feel at home. In this approach to life, there is also an acceptance for the valuable elements of the peasant tradition and folklore that young people take pride in, as well as certain features of local dialect perceived as signs of attachment and identity.
