Summary/Abstract: In the 13th century there were important changes in Ryazan ceramic production. They can be noticed in the manufacturing technology (increased use of pastes without visible impurities and reductive firing), emergence of new forms of ware (pitchers, lamps), change of rim profiles, spread of wave-line ornamentation. The nature of some changes was evolutionary, others may be related to the destruction of the economic and political structure of the Ryazan principality after the Mongol invasions and migrations of large groups of inhabitants inside the territory of the principality. The main challenge for future research is the lack of quantitative data characterizing ceramic traditions that existed in different cities of Ryazan land.
