Imports at the Turn of Eras in Complexes of Western Siberia and its Value for Chronology

Summary/Abstract: There are sites of two types of imports in the Ob basin in the area of Kulaika cultural continuity. These imports and signs of cultural influence are conventionally named “Hunnish” and “Sarmatian”. The article contains the information about features of each of these types. The reasons are considered according to which these sites could be dated to 2nd BC — 2nd AD. The commonly spread transfer of imports dating on the complexes where they were found is criticized. Also the author supposes that the sites with different types of imports shouldn’t be included in one chronological stage. The author suggests that “Sarmatian” waves of imports in the Ob basin follow the “Hunnish” ones. A change in the origin of imports doesn’t point to changes of economic strategies of the taiga population, but rather tells about changing interactions between socialterritorial groups in the Eurasian steppe. The Sarmatian trace in late sites of Kulaika culture could be connected with the crisis in the Eurasian steppe in late 2nd — 3rd AD.
