POTENTIAL EVOLUTIONS OF THE EUROPEAN SECURITY ENVIRONMENT IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF ROMANIA’S HOLDING THE EU COUNCIL’S PRESIDENCY (JULY - DECEMBER 2019)

Summary/Abstract: The present paper is an analysis of European security environment’s evolution trends, starting from its current characteristics. The present scientific endeavour aims at identifying the main challenges the EU Council will have to approach when its Presidency will be assured by Romania (July-December 2019).The article includes aspects related to EU’s institutional framework, especially, the role of EU Council Presidency, as well as a brief analysis of the main crises and challenges the EU faces both internally and externally. Thus, the image clearly delineated is that of an international actor characterized by many vulnerabilities, but with an incontestable potential to adapt to the new international realities and to maintain its status as a relevant actor on the international arena.
