Summary/Abstract: Based on analysis of Star Trek series, the author discusses the relationship between science fiction’s visions of the future and the policy pursued at the time of its creation. After presenting the interpretations that praise critical and emancipatory potential of the product of mass culture, he pays special attention to the opposite ones that discovers camouglaged affirmation or justification of the foreign policy of the United States in it. In conclusion, he argues for the well-measured interpretation according to which Star Trek represented benevolent moral corrective to policies of the U.S. administration, whose scope and effect nevertheless to remain limited and determined by the context in which it originated
