Summary/Abstract: The text is a review of Ewa Nowicka’s book. The review contains an overview of field research and contents of the book. It convincingly shows how political and social elites of Russian Buriatia try to construct or reconstruct Buriat ethnic identity. The review demonstrates that the book fulfilled its aims.
