Milonguero Lifestyle Through the Prism of the Theory of Entertainment and Game

Summary/Abstract: Entertainment industry in recent paper is analyzed through the prism of J. Huizinga’ and R. Caillois’ game concept – main features of game, pointed out by these scholars are analyzed in the case of social tango dance. The author shows how involvement in the world of tango, affects daily life and forms a new life style: the life of milonguero achieves particular tempo, gains a new values, philosophy, aesthetic and dressing style. The person becomes a part of tango dancers’ community where mutual relations are performed according to particular unwritten rules (codigos). Physical, psychological, social, cultural and financial changes in behavior, which appears with involving into the world of tango and milongas, are analyzed from anthropological point of view. Reasons of diffusion and popularity of entertainment events such as tango festivals, marathons and enquentros which in recent decades could be seen in whole Europe, is associated with the so-called contemporary, globalized and nomadic concept of tango dance.
