Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to study the reasons of the criticizing nature of Gjergj Fishtas’ study of Goethe's Faust. Among the earliest Albanian studies on Goethe and his work, can be considered Gjergj Fishta’s survey, published in "Hylli i dritës", no. 6, 1932, on the occasion of the 100-th anniversary of the death Goethes. Gjergj Fishta, except as a national poet, is also known as a literary critic, whose method is based on impressionist criteria, which remove his analysis from objective judgment and lead to a subjective intent. This is especially evident in this study on Goethe’s Faust. Gjergj Fishta, as has been known, had a religious formation and mainly through this “window” he observes Goethes' Faust and his characters. However, after the impressionist start, it passes to the positivist criterion (biography). Why does Fishta criticize Goethe on other issues? Does this swinging of Fishta’s Judgment from worship to deinal has an explanation? These and other issues are questions this paper tried to give answers to.
