Summary/Abstract: Ernest Bernea (1905-1990) is an important interwar Romanian thinker, a key figure who contributed to the development of the philosophy of culture, anthropology, ethnology and sociology. He was the student of the anthropologist Marcel Maus and attended the philosophy courses held by Martin Heidegger. He is the initiator of the first course of ethnology in Romania and cofounder together with Dumitru C. Amzăr, Ion I. Ionică, Ion Samarineanu of the magazine Rânduiala (1935). Our hermeneutic essay aims, in the following pages, to highlight the critical perspective upon modernity made by the philosopher Ernest Bernea and to emphasize the set of solutions proposed by the hermeneut.
