Summary/Abstract: This paper presents a ubiquitous technology at this moment when browsing the Web: cookies are information sequences stored by Web browsers, whose legitimate use brings no threat in terms of security of personal data. The problem occurs when stored data, some without the user's consent, is used for marketing or illegal activity monitoring. The paper presents both technical and legislative aspects regarding the use of cookies.
