Summary/Abstract: The developments on the eve of the U.S. President R. Nixon’s 1969 visit to Romania and the event itself called attention of the Soviet and American side. Both of them had their own understanding of the situation and possible unfolding of the events either in the nearest or in distanced future. The author of the article, based on the archival and published documents, explores several aspects of this theme.
