Summary/Abstract: The strategy of local development as a planning document is aimed at pointing developmental directions, which result in the improvement of inhabitants’ life quality. Its success depends not only on the elaboration of a development concept but also on its effective implementation and updating. Unfortunately, it happens that developmental strategies are not properly implemented, or its execution is abandoned. The main reason are barriers, which can appear and disenable or hinder strategy implementation. The authors discuss the results of undertaken questionnaire surveys in the range of developmental strategy implementation in cities with county rights in Poland. The barriers of strategy implementation and also the premises of strategy updating are presented.
