Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the need for comprehensive regional geodatabases in Lithuanian archaeology. It asserts that the existing databases, which are based on the idea of archaeological sites, are insufficient for the analysis of many of the questions raised by regional and landscape archaeology and that it is therefore necessary to support an off-site conception. Because such database should be more complex and composed of many separate parts, the article presents only one of them, the part devoted to archaeological research conducted in one region (Kernavė in eastern Lithuania). The article discusses its structure and highlights the problems that arise in classifying data with very differing information levels. This database also does an excellent job of showing the representation level of the archaeological map of Lithuania: the scale of all of the investigations that have been conducted up until now, the unevenness of the territorial distribution, and the diversity of the applied methods. After mapping all of the conducted investigations, it was discovered that they have been concentrated in only several intensively investigated locations while large regions which are essentially unknown to archaeological science to this day exist around them.
