Credibility of macroeconomic forecasts – experiences of stability and growth pact and multi-year budgeting

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to assess the credibility of macroeconomic forecasts used for multi-year budgeting. It draws data from the stability and convergence programmes of the EU countries. The paper is a comparative analysis of these programs in terms of the quality of forecasts of the basic parameters such as: rate of real GDP growth, the ratio of general government deficit to GDP and ratio of public debt to GDP.
