Summary/Abstract: Mehmet Kaplan was born in Sivrihisar on March 18 1915, the time when the epic victory was proclaimed in the battle known as the Battle of Gallipoli. Although he was born in a small town, he made a remarkable influence for the period he lived in, both by writing scholarly works after becoming a member of the academia and in terms of the scholarly fields he founded. Another significant Kaplanʼs contribution to science is the fact that he also educated young scholars, those who followed his path of scholarly effort. The main aim of the paper is to analyse the terms water/rain in the essays by Mehmet Kaplan, but also as retrieved from the collective memory of his period. In their connotative meaning, these lexemes signify Godʼs blessing, but in Kaplanʼs perception, they lead us to the source of blessing in his life—his mother, Sidika Kaplan. This paper attempts to illustrate remembrance and yearning for Motherʼs blessing present in Kaplanʼs literary opus, the blessing he longed for his entire life.
