Municipal collaboration for tourism development

Summary/Abstract: Among different organizational entities which affect the development of the tourism sector, local governments play a leading role. Actions taken without working together with the local government, local community, local business leaders, and local non-governmental entities make sustainable outcomes difficult to attain. The paper focuses on issues associated with the joint implementation of selected decisions in the area of tourism development. The first part of the paper describes tasks assigned to local governments, while the middle part describes local opportunities for collaboration in the area of tourism, with a dedicated section on Local Action Groups. The last part evaluates collaboration from the perspective of local governments. Collaboration was viewed as very productive in the case of municipalities working together with other local municipalities, while collaboration between municipalities and the scientific community ranked low on the productivity scale.
