THE UNACCOMPANIED MINORS IN THE ASYLUM SYSTEM OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA

Summary/Abstract: On the road to European integration, there are numerous challenges for the Republic of Serbia. The matching of asylum system, not only with the universal standards but also with the standards the European Union has set in this area, stands out as the one of the most significant conditions. With the Law on Asylum, which came into force in 2008., the step forward in the asylum protection was made, and the period that followed put to the test it' s practical usage. Moreover, after 2008. Serbia faced with the sudden increase of expressed intentions for the asylum seeking, among which are those of the unaccompanied minors. In the asylum system the unaccompanied minors is recognized as the most sensitive category, especially for various aspects of violence and exploitation. Because of that we will try with this labor both to provide a better insight into the position and status of legaly visible unaccompanied minors who seek asylum in Serbia and to point out the shortcomings of their care mechanism.
