Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author strives to show the policy of protecting human rights and the mechanisms that exist within the European Union, the aim of which is to provide security to every individual and to create legal frameworks that become the basis of norms that each national legislation must apply and adapt in accordance with characteristics of each state. Human dignity, freedom, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights values are embedded in the foundations of the EU treaties. The EU Charter of Fundamental Human Rights clearly defines the rights of EU citizens.
