Summary/Abstract: An important challenge for further economic integration of the European Union is to reduce disparities in the level of economic growth. In many developed countries they grow relatively quickly, especially between big cities and low urbanized regions. Meanwhile, the results of some studies show that in some EU economies (so called Old EU) disparities in this dimension have decreased. The aim of the analysis is to determine which of these patterns of regional development prevails in the Polish economy. Based on the evolution of GDP per capita in the years 2000-2013 for the three types of regions at NUTS level 3 (large cities, functional regions of large cities, low urbanized areas), it was determined whether a process of convergence between them could be observed.
