Summary/Abstract: Utilitarianism is considered as a type of moral culture within which a universal maxim of behavior is orientation on achievement of social and/or individual well-being, happiness. The idea about existence of two valuable and semantic forms of utilitarianism is pointed out: extensive — consumer and intensive — productive. The intelligentsia as the agent of modernization is attributed by the utilitarianism of the intensive type. Noted is the degradation of an intellectual utilitarianism to the level of extensiveness and transformation of intelligentsia into a destructive social force connected with unilateralism or blocking modernization processes in society.
