INFORMATION ASPECTS OF THE STATISTICAL STUDY OF CRIME

Summary/Abstract: Crime is a phenomenon that has a high cost for society and seriously threatens the normal development of society as well as personal inviolability, the property, honour and dignity of citizens. This paper presents some basic aspects of the statistical study of crime. It explains the nature of crime as an object of statistical study. The major sources of information are discussed together with the problems of information provision. The system of statistical indicators is described in detail as a way of characterizing registered crime. The possibilities for the statistical study of latent crime are clarified and some characteristics when analyzing the antisocial behavior of juvenile offenders are also discussed.
