Summary/Abstract: Physical child abuse is common and carries a significant morbidity and mortality. Physical abuse may involve hitting, shaking, throwing, poisoning, burning or scalding, drowning, suffocating or otherwise causing physical harm to a child. Early identification of physical abuse and early intervention are essential to prevent ongoing abuse and avoid its consequences.
