Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to explore methods of «double coding» in the Post-modern art painting trade. Methodology. The research methodology is based on the using of a systematic approach that adequately represents the cultural codes in the paradigms of Semiotics, Structuralism, Post-Structuralism, Postmodernism and Cultural Hermeneutics. Scientific novelty. Scientific novelty is the researching of modern painting with the using of artistic codes, which, as in other forms of visual art, summarize a number of artistic and expressive means, becoming conventional signs in the form of characters and code symbols. Visual code of modern painting has a semantic ambiguity in the interpretation (decoding), despite the specificity of created picturesque images. Conclusions. Basing on examples of contemporary painting it is determined that the «double coding» and decoding in the visual arts are manifested through the process of perception of images codes, established methods of citation, used allusions, reminiscences and new connotation of the well-known works on the history of painting.
