Evolution of the Carabinieri Corps in Italy

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is the evolution of the Carabinieri Corps in a modern-day Italy, including its territorial defence function. The transformation of the then Carabinier Corps into the fourth type of Italian Armed Forces in 2000 led primarily to the internationalization of its activities expressed in active participation in operations abroad. To illustrate the panorama of Carabinieri Corps’ tasks, the origins of this formation have been explored. Finally, conclusions for decision makers in Poland, useful in the process of creating the Territorial Defence Forces, were presented.
