Summary/Abstract: The existence of a category of "historiographical collections" is in doubt. Follow the philological method to understand the production of this type of work, is not useful. We must first determine their function. Of course, we can talk in general about the function of the collections, as expression of culture of the syllogè. To better understand this kind of production we can try to compare it to the production of anthologies in the Chinese world, based on recent studies that highlight their function in a contemporary Byzantine court society.
