Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present conclusions concerning the analysis of a degree of e-Government advancement in the surveyed municipalities in Poland and to bring closer the idea of Open Government which is only starting to be implemented at the local level in Poland. The research objective is to determine the extent to which the municipal office’s web sites are carrying out the tasks assigned to e-government, as well as if (and how much) the local authorities seek to open themselves to citizens and facilitate communication with the local community. The study involved 44 randomly selected municipalities in Poland. The observations indicate that while the availability of services offered using electronic means is satisfactory, the idea of Open Government is only at the beginning of its development. Open Data sets were not observed in any of the analyzed municipalities. One of basic manifestations of openness is an active account on at least one social network – and almost three fourths surveyed municipalities have one.
