Summary/Abstract: Author of this paper investigates the meaning of Schelling’s understanding of criticism, according to his earlier text Philosophical Letters on Dogmatism and Criticism. As a philosophical system that presupposes opposition of freedom and nature, criticism is presented as a struggle between subject and the world. Its opposed system, dogmatism, represents a philosophical system that results in certain passivation of subject. High intellectual appeal of criticism will be shown firstly by an inquiry into the tasks and principles of these opposed systems. Furthermore, investigation will deal with the reasons why Schelling gives the system of criticism positive evaluation, which can only be understood correctly in view of the epochal meaning of Kant’s critical philosophical project. Finally, Schelling’s interpretation is linked to Hegel’s understanding of subjective principle of Kant’s and Fichte’s philosophy. Based on it, it is possible to posit this thesis regarding criticism as a struggle between consciousness and the world more profoundly: as a standpoint of subject’s moral worldview
