Summary/Abstract: This synthetic article is devoted to the linguistic dimensions of administrative power. It surveys current good and bad communicative practices and indicates how they have been changing under the evolving social, political and technological circumstances in Poland. Since institutional discourse is largely shaped by extra-linguistic circumstances, the actions of administrative communicators are constrained by the political, cultural and civilizational factors. The article discusses various communicative barriers in institutional discourse and mentions initiatives oriented towards increasing the quality of administrative communication.
