Summary/Abstract: The accounts or bills noted down in Stanisław Brzozowski’s letters are read here as an idiolect of an autobiographic discourse, rendering even clearer the gap between an author’s plans and expectations and a real-life discomfort. The ‘bookkeeping’ effort expressed in figures which turn out to be euphemised signs of helplessness, revealing communication- and identity-related disorders and disturbances being immanent of epistolography. Whilst evidencing a strife for dignity, Brzozowski’s accounts can be recognised as ‘dis-identifiers’ of endangered humanism.
